My best architect - Richard Meier on His Miami Oasis /on video/

Built in 1929, Miami’s exclusive Surf Club is getting a facelift, by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Richard Meier. The hotel and residences — set on several acres of Atlantic beachfront — will be Meier’s first-ever project in the city. His design is comprised of two 12-story buildings that will house 150 residential units and a luxury hotel. The modern additions, which hold true to Meier’s geometric and abstract style, will surround the Club’s original Mediterranean Revival building.

“Ours is a modern building, this is an historic building. The two have a dialogue, but the new is not going to look like the old,” said Meier in an interview with Blouin ARTINFO in Miami. “It’s a terrific building and it’s worth restoring and keeping.”
